Mini Face Lift

Mini Face Lift

The mini face lift is also variously known as the Advanced Mini Face Lift, French Face Lift, Mini MACS Lift, Quick Lift, etc.

This procedure is used to produce a subtle improvement in the appearance of jawline, reduce jowls and soften nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds) and marionette lines.

Mini-Face-LiftIt may, in some cases, improve the appearance of the neck as well. The procedure is usually performed by making a small incision along the hair line and in front of the ear, followed by undermining the facial skin in front of the ear. Stitches are then used to lift the deeper part of the facial tissue to produce a small lift. This is carried out under local anaesthetic (while awake), with or without sedation. The patient is in hospital for only a few hours. A support garment is usually recommended for 1 week after the procedure, and stitches are removed after 7-10 days.

The lift can last 2-3 years, however, the procedure is repeatable to “top-up” the results. The longevity of the results depends on a number of factors, including skin laxity, genetics, normal ageing changes and smoking.
Like any surgical procedures there are risks. While uncommon, the risks should be fully understood before going through any surgery. At Northwest Cosmetic Surgery Clinic at Sthetix Liverpool, the surgeons who carry out full face and neck lifts and are fully trained Consultant Plastic Surgeons.

Mini Face Lifts can be combined with other procedures, such as:

• Fat Transfer or fat injection to restore volume to the cheeks
• Upper and/or lower eye lid surgery
• Mini Neck Lift to produce an overall facial rejuvenation

Fat Transfer/Fat grafting

Fat Transfer- Volume restoration for reconstruction and Aesthetic enhancement

Fat transfer takes (harvests) fat cells from one area of the body (usually tummy or thighs) to another location. It can be used to fill in wrinkles, scars, and other imperfections as well as to plump up the lips or cheeks.
Fat transfer is also widely used to correct body defects and indentations which result from injuries and complications of surgery. Surgery for cancer can leave defects on the face or body. Cosmetic surgery procedures like liposuction, laser liposuction, vaser liposuction, removal of lumps and removal of male breasts (gynaecomastia ) can also leave indentations or uneven results. Lipo filling (fat transfer) has become the main stay of treatment for such defects. There is no chance of rejection with this procedure.

The technique used by us is one developed and perfected by Dr Coleman of New York city. We have been using this technique for the last 12 years in increasing number of patients with pleasing results. Types of defects corrected include breast defects following lump removals, contour defects following cosmetic surgery and after trauma. It is also a popular method used for cosmetic improvements on the face with or with out a facelift (cheek augmentation, brow filling, improvements of periorbital (eyelids)area, restoration of lost volume, lip augmentation), hand volume restoration etc.

Donor sites may include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, and other areas where fat cells are available. Fat transfer or fat grafting uses living cells from your own body.

Fat grafting procedure starts with harvesting the required amount of fat from a donor area, using metal tubes which are specially made for this pupose. The fat is then prepared and centrefuged to separate out other fluids from fat and injected using special cannulae into the desired area using tiny incisions. Fat grafting, to be succesful, depends on the skill and exxperince of the surgeon. The survival of the fat graft and results are higly technique dependent

In most cases, between 50-70% of the transfered fat can be expected to survive the tranfer for the long term. Depending on the type and size of the defect to be filled, more then one procedure may have to be done to achieve the desired result.

The time spent with your surgeon before any procedure is as important as the surgery itself. This is very true for fat transfer. It is critical to understand the desired expectations and wishes as well as the limitation of what can be achieved. The consultant plastic surgeon who carries out the majority of fat tansfer procedures in Liverpool is credited with bringing this technique to the northwest, UK and has performed over a 1000 such procedures.

Facelift

Facelift

Facelift is fast becoming a common and satisfying aesthetic surgical procedures. It may remove wrinkles and tighten the skin of the lower face and neck. Excess fat can be removed or sculpted as needed. The facelift may give you a more youthful fresher natural appearance, avoiding a stretched mask like over-operated appearance. Your expectations must be realistic, since there are limitations to what it can accomplish. Media, articles and TV may lead you to believe a facelift is a simple procedure; in fact, it is real surgery.

When a facelift is performed by a fully trained cosmetic surgeon the result can be pleasing. However, every face is unique, very few if any are symmetrical and surgery is tailored to the individual needs. There can be never be a guarantee of a specific result.

Complications

Individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable, when a facelift is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are few and usually minor. Complications that can occur include heamatoma (a collection of blood under the skin that must be removed by the surgeon), injury to the nerves that control facial muscles (usually temporary), loss of sensation around the ears, infection, asymmetry and poor healing of the skin (most likely to affect smokers). You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon’s advice both before and after surgery. If you smoke, you will be asked to stop smoking before surgery and avoid smoking till you have completely healed. We DONOT undertake facelifts on smokers.

Most of the women and men who would benefit from face lifting are between 40 and 70 years old. However, there are exceptions. Some people age prematurely and may consider improvement at an earlier age. Younger patients with early ageing changes may consider Thermage ( non surgical skin tightening) to achieve the results they desire.

All surgical procedures carry certain risks and there are limitations of what can be achieved. A full and frank discussion with the surgeon is the only way to gain a clear insight into the procedure and allow you to make an informed decision about your surgery.

Brow Lift Surgery

Brow Lift

The sagging of brow may cause the person to look tired, angry and old. A Brow Lift is performed as an inpatient procedure under a general anaesthetic. Typically it takes 1 to 2 hours and an overnight stay in hospital. With the `open` method the incision is hidden just inside your hair line or a few centimetres behind the hair line. Selected muscles and excess skin may be removed to lift the brow position and improve the appearance of wrinkles on the brow.

Endoscopic brow lift is a similar, minimally invasive procedure to lift the brow and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead. Endoscopic or minimal- scar brow lift is performed using fibre optic camera inserted via small incisions in the hair line. This is attached to a television screen allowing the surgeon to visualize the surgical field. It leaves hidden small scares and the brow in a lifted, younger position.

You can expect some discomfort after this procedure, as well as some swelling and bruising. As the incisions heal, you will notice some itching and possibly some numbness. This usually improves with time. The risks with this procedure include paralysis of the muscles which move the brow; this is usually temporary but can be permanent. Hair loss in the area of surgery is also a risk with this procedure.

All surgical procedures carry certain risks and there are limitations of what can be achieved. A full and frank discussion with the surgeon is the only way to gain a clear insight into the procedure and allow you to make an informed decision about your surgery.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can freshen the look of your eyes, excess skin in the upper eyelids and bags in the lower eyelid may be amenable to correction with blepharoplasty.

Eye lid surgery (blepharoplasty) involves making incisions in the crease of the upper eyelid and along the border (under the eye lashes) of the lower eye lid. Excess skin and fat are removed. Tightening of the lower eye lid may be needed in some cases.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery) – After

Not all upper eye lids have excess skin and fat and the appearance of tired, heavy eyes may be due to brow decent. In these cases a Brow lift is indicated to improve the appearance. In some cases a combination of Eyelid surgery and brow lift may produce the best result.

Not all lower eyelids have `bags` (excess skin and fat). In some cases of sunken eyes, fat transfer (Coleman Technique) may give the best results.

However, each individual’s anatomy varies. Very few if any are absolutely symmetrical and symmetrical results following surgery can not be guaranteed. The shape of the eyes may change after blepharoplasty/eyelid surgery. Risks include haematoma (collection of blood), infection, lumpy, red or wide or asymmetrical scars, dog ears, inversion or eversion of lower eyelid, excessive watering or dryness of eyes. There is a very small risk of injury to the eye. Eyelid surgery does not lift the brow position.

Careful consultation and consideration of information provided at the time will help you make an informed decision. Unrealistic expectations lead to unhappy patients and surgeons.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can give the vast majority of patients a very satisfying new look.
